5 Common Dog Health Issues to Watch out For

Dog Health Issues

Are you one of the 78 million dog owners in America?

Dogs are man’s best friend, but as human dog owners, we need to learn more about the signs of potentially harmful health problems.

If you happen to own a happy pup yourself, please read on to discover the top dog health issues that could happen.

1. Ear Infections

Ear infections are dog health issues that are pretty common with most dogs. Puppies are more inclined to getting ear infections because of ear mites.

If you find your dog repeatedly scratching at his or her ears, then you may need to treat your dog for an ear infection. It’s possible to find a strange odor coming from your dog’s ears which also indicates an infection.

Some symptoms of ear infections in dogs are:

  1. Shaking of the ears
  2. Moving the head back and forth
  3. Redness
  4. An odor
  5. Swelling along the ear

Treating an ear infection in your dog is a simple feat. You can take your dog to the vet where they can prescribe you some clean solution to massage into the ear canal.

Another tip: adding the right ointment to the outer ear will also make sure your dog is on the path to recovery. Schedule another check up with your vet after the medication is finished for a final look.

2. Tapeworms

Some more dog health issues to watch out for are tapeworms. Tapeworms are internal parasites that make your pup feel sick. These worms are potentially dangerous if they are not treated right away.

Some signs to look for to see if your dog is suffering from a tapeworm include:

  1. Diarrhea
  2. Changes in eating habits
  3. Scooting his or her bottom
  4. Swollen belly
  5. Vomiting

We at the All Star Pet Resort recommend taking your dog to the vet for treatment of tapeworms. Oral medication will do the trick to kill the tapeworm effectively.

3. Fleas

Have you started applying flea medication to your dog’s coat at a young age yet?

If not, your dog is highly susceptible to fleas.

Fleas are one more health issue that affect dogs. It takes as little as a few weeks for fleas to cause problems. You can treat fleas by visiting the vet to obtain medication to treat these hot spots.

4. Diarrhea

Doggie diarrhea is another issue that should be addressed. Keep your dog as stress-free as possible to prevent these unfortunate symptoms.

Diarrhea symptoms are obvious, and they include watery, loose stool. If your dog has a sensitive stomach, you may need to switch up his or her food. Keep water on hand for your dog to drink up because if your dog has diarrhea, he or she will be dehydration.

5. Dog Health Issues with Obesity

Let’s face it: your dog needs to be healthy just as much as his human companion does! Dog obesity is not something to ignore. Make sure your dog has check ups for his or her weight on a regular basis.

When your canine companion is free of health ailments, then you can live a worry-free life knowing that you are treating your pet with the best quality food.
