What Do Pet Boarding Facilities Require For Cat & Dogs

What Do Pet Boarding Facilities Require For Cat & Dogs

If you’re getting ready to go on vacation or a long trip away from home, you need to find a place for your pet to stay. Pet boarding is a great option because your furry friend gets love, care, and attention all day long, instead of a relative or friend swinging by here and there for ten minutes.

If you do decide to board your pet, you need to be prepared for boarding by packing the essentials, but you also need to know what pet boarding requirements are. It’s important for a boarding facility to have certain requirements, so you know you’re choosing the right boarding facility. Your pets won’t be coming home with any diseases or infestations.

Here’s what you can expect to see required from you and your pet at a boarding facility.

Common Pet Boarding Facility Requirements

Pet boarding facilities need to make sure that their environment is kept disease-free and parasite-free, so virtually all pet boarding facilities require pets to be current and up-to-date on vaccinations. They must be given in advance of stay, and proof is required. Additionally, pets need to be free of ticks and fleas.

If you have any medications that need to be administered, you’re required to bring them and give instructions for dosing. Pet boarding facilities usually don’t do injections, though. While not always required, it’s good to bring your pet’s food and instructions for amount, bed necessities, and favorite toys.

Requirements For Boarding At All Star Pet Resort

Before staying at All Star Pet Resort, all pets are inspected for fleas and ticks, and All Star provides proof of vaccinations. For dogs, you are required to have a current vaccination certificate from a veterinarian, which includes proof of:

  • Current Rabies (within 12 months or 36 months)
  • Bordetella within the last 6 months
  • Current Distemper/Parvo (DHLPP)
  • Tick prevention

For cats, you are required to have a current vaccination certificate from a veterinarian, which includes proof of:

  • Current Rabies (within 12 months or 36 months)
  • Current Feline Distemper (FVRCP)
  • Tick prevention

Preferably, all vaccinations need to be done two weeks prior to boarding. Additionally, you will need to provide emergency contact information, including your contact phone number(s) and email(s). If there is any medication to be administered, please provide enough for the stay in the original labeled container, treats for administering, and details for amount and frequency.

If you want to bring your pet’s food, please label it with their name and provide instructions. If your pet has any special behavioral needs, please provide details. When you arrive, dogs need to be on a leash at all times. Payments are made upon departure.
